PUDUCHERRY: Students of Amalorpavam Higher Secondary School’s primary wing have done well in the abacus competition conducted by Infinite Memory Education for students in the region. Of the 21 students who participated, S. Sanjay Kumar of Standard VI A won the first prize and in the 10-12 years category, R. Kirubakarane of Standard V A won the second prize in the 10-12 years category, and S. Sathish Kumar of Standard V B won the second prize in the 7-9 years category.
S. Shanmugapriyan of Standard VI won a silver medal in the sub-junior level in the 3rd SAARC Open Karate Do Championship – 2007 organised by the School Games Federation of India.
In the Zonal-I School Games Competitions - Athletic Meet, conducted by the Government of Puducherry, C. Janani of Standard XI D came third in the high jump event in the girls under-19 category and S. Bavithra of Standard XI came second in the javelin throw event in the girls under – 19 event. In the junior boys Kho-Kho match held on November 3, the team of Standard IX boys secured the second place.
Standard XI students Pravin, Vasanth and Karthikeyan of Alpha Matriculation Higher Secondary School won the second prize in the badminton under-19 competition in the inter-school zonal-I meet games competition held at Indira Gandhi Stadium on October 12. The director of the school, B. Dhana Thiyagou, congratulated the students on their excellent performance.
Focus on intelligence skills
Uppalam Achariya Siksha Mandir’s Project I, held on October 26 and 27, focussed on multiple intelligence skills related to the curriculum. Special attention was given to Hindi, French, Sanskrit and Tamil. The other components of the show were dance, drama, role plays, mimes and dialogues. Earlier, students were taken out on a field trip to learn about the chosen topics, such as Dasavatharam, pyramids, polar region, Panchabhoota and global warming. The school also arranged a Navarathri kolu on the occasion of Vijayadasami.
Winning Hindi competitions
St. Patrick Higher Secondary School won the overall championship in the Inter-school Hindi Competition held in connection with the Town Official Language Implementation Committee’s Hindi Day celebration. Twenty students participated in the variety entertainment programme and won the first prize. In the oratory competition, Anahita Kate won the first prize and Sudiv Divakar came in second. In Prashna Manch, Sudiv Divakar and Kirthi Jain won the first prize. In Kavitha Vachan Eresh Paraihar won the first prize and Krishna came in second.
In the Postal Department’s zonal-level National Philately Quiz competition, the team comprising R. Guru Vignesh of Standard XI A, M. Prem Vignesh of Standard XI A and A.J. Praveen Babu of Standard XI C won the first prize.
In the tournament conducted by the AFT Chess Club, V. Vijai of Standard IX E came first and K. Bharathy Raja of Standard IX G came fourth in the under-16 category. Sathya Raj of Standard VII E won the third prize in the under-13 category.
