Mass campaign on total sanitation launched in the district
KORAPUT: Sanjog, a mass campaign on total sanitation, was launched in the district at Ambaguda in Jeypore block on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, Balakrushna Sahu, District Collector, highlighted then need for achieving the total sanitation campaign in the district in constructing individual household toilets in 22% of the households over the last 3 years of its starting.
The results of convergent practices with UNICEF and DPEP was encouraging and hence taking it a little further, Sanjog had been formulated to bring other departments like women and child welfare and panchayati raj departments and NGOs into the convergence with the District Water& Sanitation Mission, he said.
To ensure proper implementation of the campaign, nodal officers in the district have been entrusted with five panchayats each.
Madamgandhi village in Pottangi block had received the President’s Award for being the best village with total sanitation practices while Bariniput panchayat was chosen as the best panchayat to have adopted the practice, he said. Rabinarayan Nanda, MLA, spoke.
