`Mahasamavesh' of BJD workers held in silk city

  • Similar conventions will be held in other towns of the State
  • Chief Minister inaugurates drinking water scheme

    BERHAMPUR: The BJD chief and Naveen Patnaik launched the State-wide movement of the BJD against the alleged step-motherly attitude of the UPA Government towards Orissa from his home district Ganjam on Sunday.

    A `Mahasamavesh' of BJD party cadres from Ganjam and Gajapati district was organised at the Khallikote College stadium of the city.

    All BJD MLAs of Ganjam district, elected panchayat and urban body members from both districts and party workers attended the meet. It was also attended by State Finance Minister Prafulla Ghadei and Energy Minister Suryanarayan Patro. Similar `Mahasamavesh' to motivate party cadres against the UPA Government's policies would be organised in other parts of the State.

    Addressing the gathering of over 8000 party workers Mr Patnaik gave them a new slogan that they have to percolate to the general public.

    "Orissa is no more interested to beg before the Centre as we are on the path of self-sufficiency," he said.

    He elaborated the recent developmental schemes for rural development like Biju Gram Jyoti Yojana, Gopabandhu Gramin Yojana, Biju KBK Yojana which have been started by the State Government independently without waiting for the Centre to provide financial assistance.

    According to him progress of rural poor and farmers was the aim of his government. Although the state was marching ahead towards rapid industrialisation yet the state government was according priority to agriculture, rural development, irrigation, rural electrification as core issues, he said.

    Citing examples he said Orissa would produce one crore eggs per month in two years and 35 per cent of agricultural land in every block would be irrigated.

    He urged the party workers to be vigilant to stop corruption during the implementation of developmental schemes by the State Government.

    Mr Ghadei and Mr Patro said the Centre was neglecting Orissa by not providing sufficient funds for developmental projects like KBK Yojana and rural electrification.

    During the fag end of the meeting with slogans against Mr Patro by BJD cadres from Gajapati district as the working president of the BJD of the district Naryan Rao was not invited to address the gathering. Mr Rao was immediately invited to propose a vote of thanks.

    He apologised for the misbehaviour of his supporters but alleged that the BJD was being neglected in Gajapati district. He said though the party was strong in the district two major assembly constituencies of the district are being given to BJP to contest.

    During his visit Mr Patnaik also inaugurated administrative building of a college and a drinking water supply at Purushottampur, inaugurated a hostel campus at Deaf and dumb school at Ambapua area of the city.
