Sourav Gangulay's wife Dona Ganguly to perform
BHUBANESWAR: Showcasing several Odissi dancers from India and abroad including yesteryear's noted dancer-actress Minati Mishra and star cricketer Sourav Gangulay's wife Dona Ganguly, the two-day Debaprasad Nrutya Samaroha will be under way at Rabindra Mandap in the city on Thursday. The annual event is being hosted by city-based Tridhara dance institution in association with the department of culture and Eastern Zonal Cultural centre, Kolkata.
Tridhara director and dance guru Gajendra Panda said the festival was a tribute to late Debaprasad Das, one of the three founding fathers of Odissi, who had also set up Tridhara institution. The annual event is being hosted alternatively in Berhampur and Bhubaneswar, he added.
The inaugural evening will feature Gayathri Vadivelu, a young but brilliant Odissi dancer from Malayasia who worked with the famous Ramli Ibrahim for 12 years before setting up her own dance company in the Malayasian capital city of Kuala Lumpur. Holland-based Madhumita Raut, daughter and disciple of New Delhi-based Odissi exponent Mayadhar Raut will be one of the other performers of the evening, Panda informed.
While Kolkata-based Dona Ganguly will perform with her troupe on the concluding evening on Friday, Russia-based Odissi dancer from Orissa Rajashree Chintak and US-based senior dancer Jyoti Rout will be the other solo performers. The evening will also witness a performance by Kuala Lumpur-based IT engineer-turned-Odissi dancer Lawrence Sackris, a budding male dancer, who is also a disciple of Ramli Ibrahim.
The star attraction of the evening would, however, be Switerzland-based eminent Odissi dancer and actress Minati Mishra who has been the winner of this year's highest honour of Orissa Sangeet Natak Akademi for her lifetime contribution to dance, Panda pointed out.
