KANPUR: Launching a broadside against Bollywood super star Amitabh Bachchan for appearing in a controversial advertisement promoting Uttar Pradesh's ruling Samajwadi Party, Bharatiya Janata Party leader and actor Shatrughan Sinha alleged that the megastar had featured in the commercial only because of his ``love for money''.
Referring to Amitabh Bachchan's appearance in the advertisement, ``UP mein hai dam, jurm yahan hai kam'' (UP has power because of less crime), Mr. Sinha said he could not claim that there were fewer crimes in Bihar during former Chief Minister Lalu Prasad's tenure than in Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav's rule in Uttar Pradesh.
``If Bachchan had love for UP, he would have never appeared in such an advertisement. But since he has love for money, he is appearing in such advertisements for his birthplace just like (actor) Aamir Khan does advertisements for Coca-Cola,'' he told PTI.
Mr. Sinha was here for campaigning BJP candidates contesting the UP Assembly elections.
He said despite being a Bihari by heart, mind and birth, he could not claim that ``Bihar mein hai dam, jurm hai kam''.
``In fact there are fewer crimes in Bihar now than during Lalu Prasad's rule,'' he said.
Mr. Sinha claimed Mr. Bachchan's advertisements for his native place were no different from his commercials for various products.
He said even after the Nithari serial killings, Mr. Bachchan had said there were few crimes in UP. Whether this was right or wrong could be decided by his ``inner soul'', Mr. Sinha said.
Mr. Sinha said that after Uttarakhand and Punjab, the BJP was going to wipe out the Congress in the Delhi Municipal Corporation and UP elections.
``The people of the State would get relief from the misrule of Mulayam Singh Yadav and Mayawati and a Government headed by Kalyan Singh would provide a clean and honest administration,'' he said.
Criticising the UPA Government at the Centre, Mr. Sinha claimed that since ``Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has failed to check his two Cabinet colleagues -- Lalu Prasad and Ram Vilash Paswan -- how could he check the price rise?''
``Due to this weak government, the prices of wheat, flour, rice, pulses and vegetables are now beyond the reach of the common man. On the other hand, the government is some time busy to please Lalu, some time to please Communists and to adjust the other partners,'' he said. - PTI.
