Standing committee passes a resolution to this effect

BHUBANESWAR: The Planning and Development Standing Committee of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has expressed its reservation on converting the Biju Patnaik Airport into an international airport.

A resolution passed by the committee said: "Since the existing airport is surrounded by populated colonies, the airport should not be expanded. Instead, another airport of international standard should be constructed at a different place."

The standing committee requested Mayor Mihir Mohanty to convey the concern to the State Government.

The resolution said: "The waste material to be generated due to existence of human habitations would attract birds, which might cause accident in future."

Moreover, the committee was of the view that arrival of international standard aircraft would produce nose pollution and create tremble.

Recently, the Airport Authority of India had declared the expansion plan for the Biju Patnaik Airport.
