Puducherry: Puducherry Cooperative Milk Producers Union Limited would pay Re.1 more for a litre of milk procured from dairy farmers here.

Chief Minister N. Rangasamy said here on Saturday that the increase came into immediate effect and farmers would now get Rs.11.17 a litre. The rise in procurement price was effected with a view to improving the lot of the dairy farmers, he said. However there would be no increase in price of milk sold to consumers.

The Managing Director of the union, B. Vasanthakumar, said that normal production of milk was around 80,000 litres a day although during lean season it would go down to 50,000 litres a day.
