CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Forest Department is actively involved in construction of water harvesting structures for conserving water and de-silting operations are also being carried out in the existing water harvesting structures by people's participation through Village Forest Committees (VFCs), Haryana Minister of State for Forests Kiran Choudhry said here on Thursday.
She disclosed that during 2005-06, four dams were constructed under the Japan Bank of International Cooperation (JBIC)-assisted project with an outlay of Rs. 1.35 crore. Moreover, 20 dams were repaired during this period at an expenditure of Rs. 61.5 lakhs. And in 2006-07, seven new dams were being constructed under the Haryana Community Forestry Project and JBIC-assisted Project at a cost of Rs. 2.63 crores. Ms. Choudhry said a new project for forestation of common land in the State had been prepared and submitted to the Centre for funding by an external agency.
