Conference to focus on problems faced by women, possible solutions

    Puducherry. Chairperson of the Puducherry Women's Commission S.Kamalini said here on Wednesday that delegates of a number of voluntary organizations, social workers and counselors of various organizations would participate in the one day joint meeting convened by the Commission at the Directorate of Education at Ellaipillaichavady here on Thursday.

    She said that the meeting would discuss the various issues concerning women and get the views of the participants on the solutions that could be adopted to bring to an end the grievances of women in the Union Territory.

    She said that the meeting would be held in two sessions.

    The morning session would be attended by the delegates of various voluntary, non governmental organisations, social service volunteers and counselors.

    The evening session would be devoted to addresses by delegates of the Legal Services Authority of the Union Territory of Puducherry and by legal experts.

    She said that the meeting would have feedback from the participants so that the Commission would be able to locate the areas where the women faced sufferings.

    The Commission would also have in the near future another meeting associating psychologists to work out the modalities to prevent occurrence of suicides.

    The chairperson said that Puducherry had been recording a near alarming number of cases of suicides and there was need to go into the whole issue and find solutions to tackle the situation.
