Task force to prepare perspective plan as part of Vision 2020 document
It has planned five regional workshops in the State
The next workshops will be held in Balasore and Utkal University campus in Bhubaneswar
BERHAMPUR: A regional workshop was organised in the Berhampur University campus on Saturday by the task force for higher education policy of the State government.
The task force through the workshop collected suggestions and feed back for perspective plan of future of education in the State.
It may be noted that the State government has constituted this 17-member task force to prepare the perspective plan of higher education as part of Vision 2020 document. The task force is to submit its report by December. To prepare this report the task force had planned to hold five regional workshops in five places of the State.
The third regional workshop was held in Berhampur University campus. Two similar workshops have been held in Sambalpur and Jeypore.
The next workshops would be held in Balasore and Utkal University campus in Bhubaneswar.
The chairperson of the task force, Trilochan Pradhan attended the workshop as the chief guest.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Bijay Kumar Sahu chaired the workshop, which was attended by principals of 30 major colleges of south Orissa. Special secretary of Higher Education Department, Aniruddha Raut was also present.
Registrar of the university, Ashok Rai, several teachers of the university and citizens’ representatives attended this workshop.
The greatest irony was the lack of interest of elected representatives towards this important workshop.
All MLAs and MPs of south Orissa had been invited to this workshop to put forward their views and suggestions related to the future plans of higher education in the State.
Except for the Gopalpur MLA, Pradeep Panigrahi, no elected representative considered this workshop to be important enough to attend it.
In his address Mr. Pradhan, who happens to be an eminent scientist and former director of Institute of Physics said the task force headed by him would prepare two annual action plans for 2010-11 and 2011-12.
Apart from it, the task force will come up with two five-year perspective plans for the State corresponding to the 12th and 13th Five Year Plan period up to 2021-22.
It may be noted that the Union Minister for Human Resources Development, Kapil Sibal on July 24 had directed all states to prepare a vision document regarding progress of education and share it with the Centre.
This issue was also discussed in the 56th meeting of the Central Advisory Board of Education in New Delhi on August 31.
