BHUBANESWAR: “Oriyas should be proud of their rich heritage and culturally Orissa is the richest region of the country”, pointed out Kiran Seth, founder of Society for promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth (SPICMACAY).
He was addressing the Orissa State convention of the SPICMACAY at Human Development Foundation (HDF) School of Management at Trisulia near here on Sunday.
With its chapters spread across 300 cities in India and 50 cities abroad, 32-year-old SPICMACAY is not an institution but a movement that has received the best of support from the great artistes of the nation besides of the youth, Seth said. “Study of heritage should be made a compulsory subject in school and college curriculum,” he suggested and sought the cooperation of the Department of Higher Education to expand SPICMACAY’s activities in the State.
Higher Education Secretary M.S.Padhi, who was present on the occasion, assured that the Government would collaborate with SPICMACAY in implementing heritage awareness drive in schools without adding further burden of study on the students.
