Nine-day event closes on December 5
PUDUCHERRY: Heads, expressions and thoughts make up the works of freelance artist K.M. Saravanan. Capturing the emotions of people he met, the artist has presented a myriad of works at a nine-day exhibition.
Developing interest in painting since a young age, the artist completed the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture at the Bharathiar Palkalai Koodam.
He had also obtained 10 higher grades in painting, sculpture, drawing and geometrical drawing.
“I have painted different forms of heads in my work. The heads have been depicted with various expressions such as being happy, sad, angry and egoistic. All my works are abstract paintings,” said 40-year-old Saravanan, who works as a postman.
His works, all in acrylic medium, portray vibrant shades of colour. In fact, he had also done a number of commercial paintings such as for cut-outs of film stars and banners for political meetings. His sculpture works comprise those done in marble, bronze and granite. As the paintings reveal the heads with the thought processes and expressions, most of the works carry his favourite shades of blue and orange. “The works depict my experiences with people, and an understanding of their expressions,” he said.
Mr. Saravanan has also conducted several solo shows in Puducherry and Chennai and participated in several art exhibitions in New Delhi, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. In all, 36 paintings have been displayed at the exhibition which was inaugurated on November 27 and would go on till December 5 at Gallery Mementos, Ambalathadaiyar Madam Street.
