CUTTACK: Cuttack rural police on Saturday solved the October 11 looting incident which occurred under Tangi police station, about 30 km from here. Police arrested three persons in this connection and recovered a major chunk of the looted amount.

“All the three accused were arrested under section 395 of IPC (dacoity) and were forwarded to court”, said the Tangi police chief S R Kar.

According to reports, two garment shop owners from Cuttack were returning to the city after collecting sale proceedings from their clients in Tangi when two gun-totting persons waylaid their vehicle after intercepting it midway. The looters after attacking the businessmen with chili powder took away the car including two cash bags containing nearly Rs 10 lakhs.

“After travelling for over one km, the looters left the vehicle at a deserted place and decamped with one cash bag. We traced the vehicle next day and retrieved one cash bag from it that had Rs 5, 53,922 in it,” Mr. Kar said.

During investigation we learnt that the driver of the businessmen Suryamani Mallick was hand-in-glove with the looters and had masterminded the entire act, he said.
