His parents allege foul play

His body found with the head separated

They also allege lack of action by police on their complaint

BERHAMPUR: Recovery of a decapitated body of a nine-year-old child, who had been missing for the past eight days, from a septic tank in Ankuli area on Wednsday stunned the city.

The family members of the child alleged that it was a case of murder made by their neighbour. But police were yet to ascertain the cause of the death. The victim was Rahul Kumar Samantray. He was a student of the primary school at Ankuli area of the city. His parents lived at Mathura village in Ganjam district. He had come over to his grandfathers’ house in the city for better scope of education and had joined the school on July 1.

“We never knew his journey to Berhampur for education would become his final journey,” said his father Arun Kumar Samantray.

On July 23 Rahul had attended school but had preferred to come back home to have his food rather than having the mid-day meal in school.

After having his food at home he started for school. But according to school authorities he had not reached the school for the second session of the day. When he did not return home even after evening, Rahul’s family members, school authorities and some persons of Ankuli area had approached the Baidyanathpur police station. Rahul’s mother Sandhyarani Samantray alleged that police never took their plea seriously and even some policemen demanded money to launch a search for Rahul.

The body of the boy was found inside the septic tank located near a half-completed house when some persons of Ankuli area complained of foul smell emerging from the area. Police recovered the decapitated body as well as the head. Sandhyarani alleged that some of their neighbours who had also left the area locking up their house from the time when her son went missing were behind the murder of the child. According to her tussle between their families led to this murder.

But the investigating officer, inspector Trinath Mishra said nothing could be said till post mortem report came up and proper investigation was made. The allegations made by the mother of the child were also being taken seriously, he said.
