CUTTACK: Cuttack rural police on Friday arrested and sent five persons to court on charges of raping a minor girl. The incident took place at Badamba, about 90 km from here on Wednesday evening while the girl was travelling in a bus and was returning to her native place in Kurjanga under Badamba police station.

The arrested persons include the bus owner Prashant Sahu (29), his brother Bibhuti (33) and bus staff Santosh Patra, Sukant Sethy and Govind Naik, said the Narashinghpur police station in-charge officer Padarbinda Tripathy.

The accused have been booked under section 363, 376 (2-G), 328, 367, 354 and 506 of IPC, Tripathy added.

While the 15-year-old victim had undergone medical test on Thursday, the tests were also conducted on the accused on Friday. “All the accused persons were produced before JMFC Badamba from where they were remanded after their bails were rejected”, police sources said.

According to reports reaching here, the girl boarded the bus at Narasinghpur and reached Badamba on her way to her native village. But seeing the girl alone in the bus late on Wednesday evening, the bus owner including other staff of the vehicle lured her to a jungle area where they raped her all through the night and deserted her.

Recuperating next day morning, the girl reached her home and narrated her plight to the family members following which her father lodged a case at local Kanpur police station. When the news spread in the locality, an irate mob had blocked the Kanpur main road on Thursday demanding immediate arrest of the accused and stern action against the perpetrators.
