Chief Minister, Ministers and leaders garland statue
PUDUCHERRY: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy led the people in the Union Territory to pay floral tributes to Dr. B. R Ambedkar on his 117th birth anniversary on Monday.
Mr. Rangasamy, along with Speaker of the Assembly R. Radhakrishnan, garlanded the statue of Dr. Ambedkar in front of the Assembly complex.
Among those who offered floral tributes were Minister for Industries and Power V. Vaithilingam, Education Minister M. O. H. F. Shahjahan, Welfare Minister M. Kandasamy and Chief Whip A.Angalane.
Activists of various political parties and social organisations came out in processions to the venue to pay homage to Dr. Ambedkar. Pradesh Congress Committee chief A.V. Subramanian and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam legislators S.P Sivakumar and R. Siva also paid floral tributes.
Other political functionaries who garlanded Dr. Ambedkar’s statue included leader of the Pattali Makkal Katchi in Parliament M. Ramadass, secretary of the Puducherry unit of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam A. Anbalagan and vice-president of the Puducherry Munnetra Congress K. Lakshminarayanan.
Functionaries of the Puducherry unit of Bharathiya Janata Party, Bahujan Samaj Party, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, Dravidar Kazhagam and various Dalit outfits also garlanded the statue of Dr Ambedkar. Members of the Federation of Union Territory of Pondicherry Unit for (SC and ST) Reserved Government Employees also paid floral tributes.
At a function held in the town, D. Thirukumaran, a Class IX student of Dhanakantharaj Higher Secondary School gave a three-hour non-stop presentation on the role of Dr. Ambedkar in nation-building.
