Bharat Majhi is the recipient of the prestigious award this year

Also a major literary award is announced

BHUBANESWAR: Young and promising poet and journalist Bharat Majhi will be the recipient of the prestigious Bhubaneswar Book Fair (BBF) literary award for this year.

Announcing the awards, BBF committee secretary Barendra Krushna Dhal said that while Mr. Majhi was selected by the jury for the award for his anthology ‘Mahanagar Padya’, budding fiction writer Sujit Kumar Panda would be presented the Rabi Patnaik Memorial Award for his short story ‘Sreya’ published in the popular monthly ‘Sachitra Vijaya’ during 2007.

Similarly, children’s writer Kanak Mishra would be awarded for her book ‘Mana Mauja’ while Soumitra Samantray would be the recipient of the honour for his book ‘Photography’ in science and technology category.

City-based Paschima Publications has been adjudged as the best publisher of Oriya books for the year by the jury while Kesu Das of Balasore would be awarded the best book cover designer of the year, it was learnt.


Mr. Dhal further announced that Paschima Publications has instituted a major literary award - Paschima Sahitya Samman - this year that would be conferred on Akademi awardee eminent writer Binapani Mohanty. It carries a cash award of Rs.10, 000.

The jury that decided all the above awards included BBF Committee chairperson Satakadi Hota, eminent writer Bibhuti Patnaik, noted translator Jugal Kishore Dutta and acclaimed academician and scholar Prof. Khageswar Mohapatra besides, Mr. Dhal, the secretary. The awards would be presented during the closing ceremony of the ongoing 24th annual Bhubaneswar Book Fair at the Exhibition Ground on February 23, the hosts declared.
