Preparations were in full swing for the fifth State-level drama festival to be held in the city from December 24.

This drama festival is being organised by Odisha Natak Samaroh Samity (ONSS) to make audience of the city face-to-face with major amateur theatre troupes of the State. So, like past years this year also it would be a non-competitive drama festival, said organising secretary of the drama festival, Mihir Tripathy.

This year this drama festival would be held for seven days. Each evening of this drama festival would be named after prominent cultural activists of south Odisha, who have passed away. Every evening one major theatre activist of the State would be honoured by the drama festival committee.

On the inaugural evening the play ‘Palata Sua’ by ‘Spandan’ of Pattamundai would be enacted. The play of second evening would be ‘E Nabaghana ra Ghar’ by ‘Ajit Natya Sangh’ of Bhubaneswar. The play ‘Suna Pakhya Naranath’ would be staged by ‘Rangamanch’ of Rourkela on the next evening. The host ONSS would stage its play ‘Nimitta Matra’ on fourth evening. On fifth evening Balasore’s theatre group ‘Srasta’ would stage play ‘Samnare Jagannath’. Paradeep’s ‘Canmass’ would show its play ‘Swayamvar’ on fifth day and the concluding evening of the drama festival would have the play ‘Brain dot Com’ to be enacted by ‘Rangashala’ of Puri.

President of organising committee Anil Kumar Patra said they had invited major theatre troupes from different parts of the State so that every region was represented in this drama festival.
