Srinagar: An Army jawan allegedly committed suicide using his service rifle inside a camp in Pulwama district of south Kashmir on Wednesday, official sources said.

Sepoy Deewan Singh posted with third battalion of Rashtriya Rifles, shot himself from his own service rifle at Mandoora camp in Tral, 40 kilometres from here, the sources said.

The jawan was on sentry duty, when he took the extreme step, the sources said adding his colleagues rushed towards the sentry post after hearing a single gun shot but found him dead.

The motive behind Singh’s suicide was not known immediately.
