Strict measures are on in Ganjam police district to track down anti-social elections for free and fair conduct of urban body polls.

As per release of Ganjam district police, till September 8, around 690 non-bailable warrants pending against various persons had been executed. A total of 1,155 persons have been taken into custody. A total of 229 persons who were threat to law and order were rounded up through preventive arrests.

During these operations police has also seized 12 fire arms, 16 live bombs and 12 rounds of live ammunition. According to police sources, at present there is extra stress to track down illegal arms and anti-social elements using them. Seven hardened criminals who were dodging the police have also been arrested. These criminals had several cases of murder and other crimes pending against them.

Police is also strict on manufacturing and trading of illicit liquor.

Till now Ganjam district police has made 140 excise cases and arrested 144 persons. Illicit country liquor of around 1,797 litres and 306 litres of IMFL have been seized.

In Ganjam district, 205 polling booths meant for urban body elections have been declared as hypersensitive and 139 sensitive. According to police sources, there would extra watch on these booths and areas related to them. The polling for urban bodies is to be held on September 19.
