To conduct polls in Naxal-affected areas peacefully
Bhopal: With the Lok Sabha elections drawing closer, an ordnance Factory in Madhya Pradesh has started rolling out Mine Protected Vehicles (MPVs) to the Naxal-affected States.
“We have delivered the first consignment of four MPVs to the Chhattisgarh State police last week,” Vehicle Factory Jabalpur Senior General Manager Sukumar Kole said. He said they were giving finishing touch to four more MPVs and will deliver these variants to those States which approaches them first.
Mr. Kole said that one of the reasons to acquire MPVs was the challenge being faced by the Naxal-affected States in conducting the Lok Sabha polls peacefully. It may be recalled that seven policemen were killed and two others injured in a land mine triggered off by the Naxals while they were returning from the assembly elections duty in Bastar district of Chhattisgarh last year.
Mr. Kole said the Ministry of Home has placed order of the MPVs with Ordnance Factory Board, Kolkata, for the Naxal-hit States including Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar. However, he declined to give the number of the MPVs to be delivered to different States. --PTI
