Sequel to man's death in accident at Gosani Nuagaon

BERHAMPUR: Timely presence of police saved a minibus from being gutted by an angry mob following an accident at Gosani Nuagaon area of the city on Wednesday.

The bus ran over a daily wager Prafulla Nayak of the area, leading to his instantaneous death. He was crossing the road after taking bath at a nearby pond when the accident occurred. He is survived by wife and three children.

Enraged over the incident, the inhabitants of the area damaged the vehicle, asked the passengers to get down and tried to torch it.

The driver left the vehicle and escaped from the accident spot so as not to incur the wrath of the public.

But a police team led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Nitinjeet Singh reached the area in time and transported the minibus to the premises of Gosani Nuagaon outpost.

Security was tightened at the outpost and no one was allowed to venture inside it.

Tension prevailed in the area for more than two hours and there were also attempts to block the road seeking appropriate compensation to the family members of the victim. Following assurance from officials that the next of kin of Nayak would get compensation as insurance claim the angry mob relented.
