NEW DELHI: Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh (Patiala), his deputy Rajinder Kaur Bhattal (Lehra) and nearly 48 other sitting party legislators have been re-nominated by the Congress party to contest the February 13 elections to the Assembly.

The State Pradesh Congress Committee chief Shamsher Singh Dullo would be the candidate from Khanna (reserved), the seat held by his wife Harbans Kaur, in the first list of 98 candidates finalised by the party for the 117-member Assembly.

Prominent among those who have been asked to contest again include the children of former Chief Minister Beant Singh's son Tej Pratap Singh (Payal) and daughter Gurkanwal Kaur (Jalandhar South).

Former Hoshiarpur MP Charanjit Singh Saini, who rejoined the Congress after a stint with the Bahujan Samaj Party, would be the nominee from Hoshiarpur while at least three legislators who moved away from the Akalis also figure in the list.

The names of three sitting legislators -- Sawinder Singh Kathunangal (Majitha) who got embroiled in a case, Arvind Khanna (Sangrur) and Kushal Behal (Gurdaspur) -- do not figure in the list released by the AICC here.

The party central election committee had met here on Tuesday night to clear the candidates.

Mr. Bahal's seat was allotted to former Delhi Police Chief Pritam Singh Bhinder, husband of the late Congress MP and former Union Minister Sukhbuns Kaur Bhinder, who died last month.

Sunil Kumar, son of Madhya Pradesh Governor Balram Jakhar, has been re-nominated from Abohar while Rajnish Kumar, son of Speaker Kewal Krishan, will be the new candidate from his father's Mukerian constituency.
