All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar is working overtime to ready its much-awaited hospital by December next with Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare planning to get it inaugurated by either Prime Minister Manmohan Singh or President Pranab Mukherjee in January.
AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, sources said, had revised its hospital capacity to 250 beds across basic disciplines against earlier proposal of 75 beds.
Heavy medical equipment have been started to be delivered at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar during past one month while installation of the same is being carried out without wasting any time. AIIMS, Bhubaneswar had earlier planned to start hospital by September.
In fact, it had missed several deadlines as development of civil infrastructure and procurement of medical equipment was taking time.
All major disciplines of medicine, surgery, gynaecology, paediatrics, ophthalmology, cancer, orthopaedics and dental will be part of the hospital having three operation theatres, a casualty wing, a 10-bedded ICU and three recovery beds.
AIIMS-Bhubaneswar Director Ashok Kumar Mohapatra told media persons that a hospital with 250 beds could be ready by December and affordable and high quality medical service to be made available through the hospital.
Sources said MoHFW is making a move to invite either Prime Minister or President for inauguration of hospital which is a milestone in establishment of AIIMS in Odisha.
AIIMS-Bhubaneswar had earlier announced to convert the hospital into a 1000-bedded hospital with 34 super speciality departments, 28 modular and optimal OTs and 110 ICU beds. The focus of AIIMS would be on referral cases to be received from State medical college hospitals and district headquarters hospitals.
