SHIMLA: In keeping with the concept of corporate social responsibility, the Sutlej Jal Vidyut Nigam management has contributed Rs.1.08 crore to the Himachal Pradesh Government for disbursement among 45 affected families of the Nathpa Jhakri project at Kandhar village in Kinnaur. The amount is payable at Rs.2.40 lakh per affected family to enable them to construct their houses and other properties.
SJVN Chairman H. K. Sharma presented a bank draft for Rs.1.08 crore to Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh here at a function where members of the affected families were also present.
Kandhar village situated near Nathpa dam of SJVN in Kinnaur district had experienced massive landslides in March 2005. The villagers had claimed that the landslides were due to blasting works of SJVN but an expert committee, with one State Government nominee, had certified that the landslides were not caused by any operation of the project. "Yet we gave the aid," said a spokesman of SJVN.
