President Pranab Mukherjee celebrated his 77th birthday with a group of differently-abled children at Rashtrapati Bhavan here on Tuesday.
Seventy children from various schools arrived with hand-made greeting cards and gifts for the President and were hosted at the Durbar Hall. “There was a performance by the children. The hearing and speech impaired children sang the national anthem in sign language. The President spent time with the differently-abled children accepting greetings on his birthday. He also gave them gifts in return,” said Press Secretary to the President Venu Rajamony.
Mr. Mukherjee received the guests along with this wife and son. Earlier in the day, Vice-President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar were among the dignitaries who arrived to greet Mr. Mukherjee. He planted a sapling at Rashtrapati Bhavan and also spent time with the officers and the staff of his Secretariat in the evening. “The staff and the officials got together to wish the President and a cake was also cut to celebrate,” Mr. Rajamony said.
