Sets record in IT education field by establishing a computer lab comprising 30 terminals
JAIPUR: A madrassa attached to the Rehmani Masjid in the Walled City here, which introduced modern education a decade ago and has evolved as a senior secondary school, has set a record in the Information Technology education by establishing a computer lab comprising 30 terminals.
The Rajasthan Government's Science and Technology Department has adjudged the Rehmani Model School as the second runner-up in the excellence in IT education sector and selected it for a prize.
Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje gave away a trophy and cash prize of Rs. 50,000 to the madrassa at a function held here recently.
The chairperson of Rehmani Model School, Abdul Qayoom Akhtar, said here on Thursday that the teachers were using computers both for imparting technical education and giving instructions in the recitation of the Holy Quran. The computer lab has made a significant contribution to students achieving high grades in the Board examinations.
Nearly 2,000 students are studying in the madrassa, which has occupied a major portion of the mosque situated in the densely populated Ramganj Bazaar. Students are mostly from the families of daily wage earners, labourers, artisans and small shopkeepers living in the vicinity.
Mr. Qayoom Akhtar pointed out that about half of the madrassa students were girls and were staying in the school to join higher classes, thereby helping in the reduction of drop-out rate to as low as 6 per cent. ''Spreading education among girls is a major achievement of the madrassa. Parents who were reluctant to send girls to far-off schools are satisfied with the madrassa's performance,'' he said.
The Rehmani Model School is the only madrassa in the State that has been gradually upgraded to middle, secondary and senior secondary levels in recognition of its performance. It has recorded 93 per cent results in the 12th standard this year.
Mr. Qayoom Akhtar said the madrassa would adopt one smaller madrassa each in selected towns across the State and help them develop into model schools through the assistance of technical know-how and professional guidance.
