Varanasi: As many as 794 students have been caught for cheating in the ongoing UP Board examinations in 25 districts falling under Varanasi zone.
According to the official sources, reports collected from the seven divisions have revealed that 555 boys and 239 girls were caught cheating in the metric and intermediate examinations during the first fortnight. They said maximum students were caught in districts falling under Gorakhpur division. A total of 284, including 106 girls, were caught in that division alone.
Devipatan division is second on the list with 195 students, including 63 girls. Varanasi was placed third with 116 students. The lowest number (17) was recorded in Faizabad division. Out of 21.5 lakh students registered for appearing for the metric and intermediate examinations of the UP Board, over 1.5 lakh had reportedly preferred quitting exams from the very first day.
It was reported that those students who failed to find desired examination centres where malpractices could be done preferred to quit the exams. During the fortnight, flying squads and magistrates detected several centres where invigilators dictated the answers to students, the sources added.- PTI
