NEW DELHI: Philippine Tourism Secretary Joseph H. Durano on Wednesday said the high spending capacity of affluent Indians and the large size of the market for overseas travel have made India a "highly lucrative'' destination for the tourism sectors of other countries.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Durano, who is leading a first-ever Philippine tourism sales mission to India, said everyone wants to have a pie of India's seven million outbound tourists and this is what has drawn him here too. "Unlike our traditional tourists, who go to beaches and sightseeing, Indian travellers love the many facets of the metropolis and have a strong preference for shopping, entertainment and gaming. They spend an average of $1,200 per visit, which makes them highly-appreciated tourists."
"With the presence of large, high-end shopping malls, entertainment centres and gaming facilities, our country presents an ideal match for Indian tourists," he added. Also on the cards is a special package for Indian travellers to travel to the Philippines at reasonable prices.
