A woman who disappeared after straying into the Ranthambore National Park this past Thursday evening has been found dead inside the park territory.

A resident of Basso village, the woman had reportedly gone into the forest to collect firewood. The village is situated on the northern fringe of the park. The victim's son works as a nature guide in the park.

The villagers traced her “odhni” (scarf) in the forest. On Friday morning, the body was located in a partly-eaten state. The authorities in Ranthambore, who confirmed the incident, said a portion of flesh from the thigh of the victim was found eaten by some unidentified animal. Three doctors who conducted post-mortem confirmed the involvement of a wild animal. The authorities have announced a solatium of Rs.2 lakh in the case.
