West Delhi’s three major contenders are millionaires

The three major contenders from the West Delhi Parliamentary constituency are millionaires. Congress candidate sitting MP from West Delhi Mahabal Mishra, BJP candidate Pravesh Verma and AAP candidate Jarnail Singh filed their nominations on Friday and declared their combined assets with their spouses.

Mr. Mishra leads the pack with a combined wealth of around Rs.38.7 crore that has multiplied almost seven times from their declared assets of over Rs.6 crore ahead of the 2009 general election.

As per the affidavit filed by Mr. Mishra, he owns assets of around Rs.16.65 crore that include agricultural land in Bihar and residential plots in Delhi. His wife Urmila Mishra owns property worth Rs.16.65 crore. The couple also declared cumulative liability to the tune of Rs.1.26 crore.

BJP candidate Pravesh Verma, son of former Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma, has declared assets worth around Rs.10.6 crore along with his wife and children. His combined liabilities add up to around Rs.2.66 crore.

Among the three major contenders, AAP candidate Jarnail Singh, a former journalist, has declared a combined wealth worth around Rs.2.32 crore. While Mr. Singh and his wife together own around Rs.17 lakh in cash and gold, they also have three flats – two in Delhi and one in Faridabad – worth around Rs. 2.15 crore.
