Ashok Thakur had disobeyed summons by the NCSC

The National Commission for Scheduled Castes has issued arrest warrant against Secretary, Higher Education of the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development Ashok Thakur for disobeying summons to appear before it for a hearing.

Arrest warrant issued

An official of the Commission said the arrest warrant has been issued by Chairperson of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes P.L. Punia .

“In her complaint to the Commission, Indu Choudhary, general secretary of the SC/ ST Employee Welfare Association of Benaras Hindu University had alleged that the university authorities have been ignoring the reservation policy while filling up vacant posts, promotions and other benefits. She also alleged that the University had wrongfully deducted Rs. 27,000 from her salary and framed a vigilance case against her when she objected to it. Registering similar complaints, the general secretary and joint secretary of the Association had also requested the Commission for immediate intervention and corrective measures,” said the official.

The Commission then issued a summon to the HRD Secretary to appear before it for the hearing of the case on Monday.

Failed to appear

“The hearing of the case could not be held as he failed to attend it,” the official said.

Mr. Punia has now ordered the Commissioner of the Delhi Police to “arrest and produce the Secretary, Higher Education on April 15 before the Commission,” the official said.
