Former Union Minister and Himachal Congress president Virbhadra Singh has demanded that the compensation amounting to 7.19 per cent of the State’s share in the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) projects should be released at the earliest.

In a letter to the Prime Minister, he said the Supreme Court’s directions in this regard should be speeded up.

The State had moved the Supreme Court against denial of share in power projects under the BBMB.

The State had pleaded that Himachal should get 7.19 per cent share in the projects on the basis of on of the Punjab State Reorganisation Act, 1966. The Court in its judgment on September 27, 2011, had granted relief to the State by allowing the share.

The Court had further directed the Centre to work out details of the compensation to be paid to the State, its entitlements and liabilities within six months.
