The Delhi High Court on Tuesday granted overnight custody parole to Vikas Yadav to attend the marriage ceremony of his younger brother here in the Capital.

A Division Bench of the Court comprising Justice A.K. Sikri and Justice M.L. Mehta asked the Delhi Police to take Vikas Yadav to the private hotel where the marriage ceremony is scheduled to take place on April 29. Vikas, son of former Rajya Sabha member D.P. Yadav, along with his cousin, Vishal Yadav, were convicted for killing Nitish Katara, son of a former IAS officer, in 2002.

The Bench asked the police to let the convict move around the venue and meet whosoever he might like to meet but ensure that the surroundings were safe and secure.

It further said that the convict would remain at the venue from 6 p.m. of April 29 to the early hours on the next day.

Vikas had sought three months' parole but Delhi Standing Counsel opposed it arguing that a few hours of parole would suffice.
