The Sikkim Manipal University Directorate of Distance Education (SMU-DDE) has announced the launch of “Vidyadeep”, a scholarship programme for 1,500 meritorious and deserving students of SMU-DDE programmes across the country.

Of these scholarships, 500 will be offered to students from the North-East. The scholarship programme will offer up to 100 per cent tuition fee waiver for students currently in the first to fifth semesters in the streams of information technology, management, journalism and mass communication, fashion, hospitality and tourism, allied health, bio-technology and bio-informatics.

The eligibility criteria include low family income and examination marks.

The Geography Department of Jamia Millia Islamia in Delhi has organised a two-week winter workshop on “Remote sensing, GIS and GPS application in natural resource management” which began on December 29 and will continue up to January 11.

The workshop is being sponsored by the Central Department of Science and Technology.

PROTON business school has announced admissions to its post-graduate MBA programme at its Ahmedabad and Indore campuses.

The course offers dual-specialisation from among five disciplines — marketing, finance, HR , IT and systems, and operations. Aspiring candidates must be graduates and must have attempted CAT, MAT or XAT to qualify for the admission process.

XLRI School of Business and Human Resources, Jamshedpur, organised the inaugural conference of the Indian Academy of Management earlier this week. The theme of the conference was “Indian management: Past, present and future” while the theme of the CEO panel was “Wisdom perspectives, principles and practices in Indian businesses.”

Other events included a panel discussion and professional development workshop.

CanvasM, a joint venture between Tech Mahindra and Motorola Inc, has launched a contest for 13 engineering colleges in the country. The contest is aimed at promoting free thinking and creativity among the youth so that they can express their ideas and commercialise them, if feasible.

“InnoVAS Innovators Contest 2009-10” is a web-based competition where students are expected to share their ideas and if their ideas are selected they will earn cash rewards or an internship with CanvasM.

Students from 13 colleges including Amity School of Engineering and Technology, G. B. Pant Engineering College, GIT College of Engineering, Bangalore Institute of Technology and others will take part in the contest.

Pearl Academy of Fashion has won the Apex Award for “The Best Academic/Training Institute of the Year 2008-09”. The award was conferred by the Clothing Manufacturers’ Association of India.
