Trinamool Congress chairperson Mamata Banerjee has the party’s MPs to spend all the money allocated under MPLAD funds before the notification is issued for the upcoming general elections.

“All MPs have been asked to stay in constituencies and engage with the people. They have been asked to accelerate development work and complete all pending works before the Lok Sabha elections,” Trinamool Congress leader in the Lok Sabha Sudip Bandyopadhyay told journalists at the State Secretariat in Howrah after Ms. Banerjee met the MPs.

Trinamool Congress MPs who were present at the meeting said that the Chief Minister had categorically told them that not a single paisa of the fund should remain unutilised. The MPs have also been directed by her to supervise the functioning of the activities of panchayats so that the rural population continues to extend support to the party.

Ms. Banerjee reportedly discussed the strategy the party will take during the Parliament winter session.The stand of the Trinamool Congress on crucial issues like the separate State of Telangana and the Prevention of Communal Violence (Access to Justice and Reparations) Bill, 2013 was discussed. The party is opposed to both the issues.

Dissident MPs Somen Mitra and Kabir Suman stayed away from the meeting.
