Taking a serious note of the licensed weapons being used in celebratory firing, the Uttar Pradesh Government has cancelled 737 such licences.

“Prompt action has been taken on information of misuse of personal licensed weapons during celebratory firing in marriages, birthdays and victory processions besides its open and public display,” said the Principal Secretary (Home), R. M. Srivastava.

Till now, 836 cases have been registered in this regard and arms licences of 737 people have been cancelled, Mr. Srivastava said, adding that out of these, 565 arms have been deposited with the police stations concerned. - PTI
