Two persons were killed when a fire broke out at a restaurant in the heart of the city late on Monday evening. The owner of the enterprise was arrested by the city police on Tuesday.
P. Gangadhar Rao was arrested and remanded to police custody until December 10 by a city court, said Jawed Shamim, Joint Commissioner of Police (Headquarters).
The restaurant owner was charged under several sections of the Indian Penal Code including causing death due to negligence and relevant sections of the West Bengal Fire Services Act, 1850, he added. Litto Singh and Mahesh Singh, the cook and helper of Udipi, a South Indian restaurant, were trapped inside the building . Firemen brought them out and rushed them to the hospital, but the duo succumbed to their injuries.
