Two students of Jawaharlal Nehru University here have been suspended for their role in “producing an objectionable compact disc/video in JNU”.

The two were suspended “with immediate effect” pending a Proctorial inquiry into the incident in which a CD involving explicit content featuring a girl and a boy student of JNU was made last April-May. Copies of the video have been doing the rounds for more than six months now.

While one boy who has been suspended was part of the video, the other has been suspended on suspicion of duplicating the contents. Both boys are Tapti Hostel students and cannot attend classes or stay in the hostel till the inquiry is over. A campus ban has not been enforced as the students need to visit the campus for the inquiry

Chief Proctor Prof. H. B. Bohidar, who is conducting the inquiry, said: “A circular has been issued warning that nobody in JNU should be found with copies of the CD in any form. The security department has been asked to keep a vigil in this regard.”

The questioning of students continues. Prof. Bohidar said efforts were being made to wrap up the inquiry by this weekend. According to him, the girl in the video did not seem to be aware that she was being filmed.

Meanwhile, a meeting was held between the Vice-Chancellor, Dean of Students' Welfare and various hostel wardens.
