Two dacoits were killed on Thursday in an encounter with the police who foiled their attempt to loot a nationalised bank in Bokaro, a senior police officer said.

Attracted by shouts of a bank guard and a customer, who suffered bullet injuries when dacoits fired inside the Bank of Baroda branch in Sector IV here, a police patrol team rushed to their rescue and exchanged gunfire with the dacoits, Bokaro Police Superintendent S. K. Singh told reporters. “Two dacoits were killed on the spot during the encounter which lasted about two hours,” he said.

Deputy Superintendent of Police R. N. Sharma, who led the police team, suffered minor injuries, Mr. Singh said.

The injured were admitted to Bokaro General Hospital.

In all, four dacoits barged into the bank around 10 a.m., the SP said, adding that two of their associates managed to flee leaving behind three guns and a bike. - PTI
