Police Commissioner seeks explanation from two DCPs

Delhi Lieutenant-Governor Tejendra Khanna on Monday said Delhi Police have suspended two Assistant Commissioners of Police in connection with the brutal gang-rape of a physiotherapy student in South Delhi a week ago.

The suspended officers are ACP (Traffic) Mohan Singh Dabas and ACP (Police Control Room) Yad Ram.

Besides this, Mr. Khanna said the Police Commissioner has also sought an explanation from the respective Deputy Commissioners of Police in the matter. He will inform the Lieutenant-Governor about their submissions in the matter later.

Mr. Khanna said Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar also expressed regret at the injuries caused to peaceful protesters during the past two days on Rajpath right from India Gate to Vijay Chowk.

“Women representatives raised the issue of excessive police action against protesters and I conveyed to them the Commissioner of Police’s regret in the matter.”

Mr. Khanna said Mr. Kumar has also been told to enquire into the entire incident.

“We will have to look at the specific cases of excesses. The police have been told to act with restraint,” he said.
