With tunnelling work for the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation's upcoming new Central Secretariat-Mandi House stretch passing through Janpath all set to begin, traffic movement will be affected along Janpath from Eastern Court up to the Janpath-Tolstoy Marg crossing from this Saturday.

The Delhi Traffic Police have prepared a traffic diversion plan that will remain in place for the next one year.

Beginning tomorrow, there will be no traffic movement from Windsor Place roundabout towards Connaught Place on Janpath and from Janpath-Tolstoy Marg intersection towards Janpath.

There will also be limited access from Windsor Place towards Connaught Place for buildings located on the affected stretch.

Bus routes to and from South Delhi towards Connaught Place will be diverted.

Buses coming from South Delhi from Rajpath going towards Connaught Place will be diverted towards Dr. Rajendra Prasad Road, Krishi Bhavan roundabout, Red Cross Road, Parliament Street, Ashoka Road and Gole Dak Khana roundabout, entering Connaught Place through Baba Kharak Singh Marg.

Buses moving from Connaught Place towards South Delhi will be diverted towards Kasturba Gandhi Marg, turn right at Ferozshah Road, move towards Windsor Place roundabout and onward through the normal route.

General traffic coming from South Delhi towards Connaught Place is advised to take the route from Motilal Nehru Marg roundabout, Motilal Nehru Marg, Sunehri Masjid roundabout, Rafi Marg, Red Cross Road and Parliament Street to reach its destination.

Another suggested route is the one through Motilal Nehru Marg roundabout, Akbar Road, Man Singh Road roundabout, Akbar Road, C-Hexagon and Kasturba Gandhi Marg going towards Connaught Place.

Commuters headed for South Delhi from Connaught Place can take Kasturba Gandhi Marg or Sansad Marg towards their destination.

Parking restrictions will be imposed at Tolstoy Marg, Jantar Mantar Road, Ashoka Road, Ferozshah Road and Janpath Lane to ensure smooth traffic flow.

Adequate signage on affected roads will be put up for guidance of road users, in addition to DMRC's marshals to facilitate traffic movement. Signal timing in affected area will also be modified depending upon volume and direction of traffic.

The traffic police have advised people to avoid Janpath and use Delhi Metro and other public transport to reach Connaught Place.
