A Delhi Traffic Police constable climbed up an exhaust pipe in Kamla Market here on Monday, demanding extension of his medical leave. Senior officers later persuaded him to come down.

Dayanand, who is posted in the Gandhi Nagar circle of the Traffic Police, climbed up the exhaust pipe near a multi-level parking site in Kamla Market around 2-30 p.m. seeking extension of his medical leave.

When the local police came to know about it, they reached the spot and tried to persuade him to climb down. But he was adamant.

Later, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) was called to the spot and the officer assured the constable that he would look into his grievances. It was then that the constable agreed to came down.

“Dayanand was on medical leave for the past two months. He recently called his office seeking extension of his leave. But as per the rules, the leave could not be extended without the constable joining duty again. So he was marked absent,” said a senior police officer.
