The Delhi Government is now working on a time-bound plan to provide better civic amenities in the slum clusters, Delhi Urban Development Minister A. K. Walia said on Thursday while taking a round of the slums in Gandhi Basti near Okhla Subzi Mandi and Srinivaspuri in South Delhi.

Dr. Walia, who was accompanied by Kalkaji MLA Subhash Chopra and Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) CEO Amar Nath during the visit, said with the constitution of the Board, improvements in such clusters are becoming very visible.

Admitting that there was a need to improve the civic amenities expeditiously, he said the dwellers must have access to better health conditions. The Minister also directed that the sanitation be urgently improved and the debris lying on the Railway land be cleared.

The DUSIB has also been told to renovate a community centre which is at present not being properly utilised. He also told officials of the Department of Irrigation and Flood Control to address the problems connected with a drain running through the slum cluster.

A delegation of Okhla Subzi Mandi also met the Minister and urged him to improve the conditions around a choked drain in their area.
