“Time to plant more trees regularly”

Delhi Chief Secretary P. K. Tripathi on Saturday inaugurated a new greenery drive by undertaking ceremonial plantation of saplings at Garhi Mandu near Wazirabad Signature Bridge. Besides Mr. Tripathi, more than 200 school children also planted saplings.

Senior State Trading Corporation (STC) officers announced at the event that the organisation will donate 30,000 plants for the campaign.

Mr. Tripathi said the Delhi Government had planted a million trees in the Capital last year as part of a mega campaign.

He said the time had come to nourish and nurture those trees and to plant more trees to make it a regular exercise.

He s said the Delhi Government had also instructed all Departments heads to plant trees in their office complexes to make office buildings more environment-friendly.

He said the Government has made available various species of plants at about 100 places such as petrol pumps, milk booths and offices of residents welfare associations to encourage the plantation drive. Besides, corporate houses have also been requested to contribute to the campaign.
