A timber godown was gutted in a major fire at Tilak Nagar here in the early hours of Wednesday. However, no one was injured in the incident.

The fire broke out around 5 a.m. and soon engulfed the entire godown, which also comprised a furniture outlet. Over a dozen fire tenders were pressed into service and the blaze was put out around 11-30 a.m. “However, the fire tenders remained stationed there till 2 p.m. as a precaution,” said a police officer.

The police have recorded the statement of the godown owner, Ramesh Kumar, and investigations are under way to ascertain the cause of fire. “There was no one in the godown when the fire broke out. Prima facie it appears to be a case of electric short circuit,” the officer said.
