Three dacoits, one of them with a whopping 27 criminal cases against him at various police stations across North-West Delhi, have been sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for life for looting a tobacco wholesaler’s shop after threatening to kill those employed in the shop. Two youngsters who kept watch outside the shop while the trio went inside were granted leniency by the court which gave them a seven-year jail term.

Additional Sessions Judge Kamini Lau said: “Trigger-friendly criminals like the convicts before this court unhesitatingly and indiscriminately use dangerous firearms on helpless victims as has happened in the present case. The acts of the convicts has a tendency of spreading terror in society and adversely affecting social order and the faith of people in the system…In fact, the convicts – Naeem, Sarfaraz and Mohd. Arif – who used to be small time thieves have now apparently graduated into dacoits / murderers.”

The incident that happened on February 4, 2011, in Sri Nagar and lasted just 21 seconds was captured by CCTV cameras installed in the shop which helped identify and later be used as evidence against the accused men.
