NEW DELHI: Three foreign nationals, including a woman, have been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police for allegedly being in possession of and supplying contraband.
A Crime Branch sub-inspector recently received a tip-off that a foreign couple was allegedly involved in supplying cocaine in parts of South Delhi. The police laid a trap near 3D Cinema in Lajpat Nagar on Monday and arrested a woman, later identified as Salaw Volanlu, while she was allegedly handing over cocaine to Asadullah, an Afghan national. The police claimed to have seized 20 gm of cocaine from her possession and 30 gm from the Afghan national. The woman’s husband, Tonito De Silva, was later arrested.
The police said investigation was on to ascertain the source of the contraband and the customers.
Tonito, a Guinea Bissau national, came to India three years ago and shifted to Delhi from Mumbai a year ago. He was staying in Uttam Nagar. Salaw is a native of Lagos in Nigeria.
Asadullah has been staying in Lajpat Nagar for the past seven years. He came to India in 1996 and claims to be registered as a refugee with the U. N. His brother Naqibullah has been arrested twice under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
