Three young men allegedly involved in robbery cases have been arrested at Mianwali Nagar in West Delhi. The police claim to have recovered a stolen gold chain from the accused.

Jitender Prakash Verma, a resident of Pankha Road who works as a chef at a hotel, lodged a complaint with the Vikaspuri police alleging that in the early hours of Sunday, he was going home on his motorcycle when three young men on another motorcycle intercepted him near Keshopur Mandi traffic signal. At knife-point, the trio robbed the victim of his purse, mobile phone and a gold chain and drove off.

Rajeev Sharma, who was then passing through the area in a car, stopped after he heard Jitender screaming for help. At his instance, both trailed the robbers in the car and made a distress call to the Police Control Room on the way. “A message was flashed and the area police alerted. Two policemen from Paschim Vihar and one from Mianwali Nagar, who were on night patrol duty, also went after the suspects and managed to intercept them after a brief chase,” said a police officer.

During interrogation, the accused identified themselves as Tarique (25), Tushar (20) and Sonu (20), all residents of jhuggi clusters in Nangloi. According to the police, Tarique is a registered bad character of the Nangloi police station and Sonu was previously convicted in a criminal case in 2008. “We seized knifes and the victim's gold chain from the accused. Those involved in arresting the robbers would be rewarded suitably,” said an officer.
