NEW DELHI: Three young men, including an aspiring model, have been arrested by the Special Staff of the West Delhi police for their alleged involvement in about 50 cases of roadside robbery. The police claim to have seized two country-made firearms and four stolen mobile phones from them.
The accused have been identified as Rajesh (26), Mukesh (23) and Vasu (19). On Saturday, a team led by Inspector Rajkumar of the Special Staff received a tip-off that the three accused would gather near a park at Rajouri Garden. Subsequently the team mounted a raid and arrested them.
During interrogation, the accused purportedly confessed to their involvement in at least 50 robberies. Accused Mukesh disclosed that he was an aspiring model, but was unable to pursue the career because of his poor economic background. While Rajesh was previously into gambling, Vasu has earlier been arrested in a case of murder and attempt-to-murder. The gang, members of which are residents of Jehangirpuri, had named itself as D-Company and operated mainly on Ring Road. The accused also confessed to having murdered a young man at Azadpur on May 21 with an intention to rob him of his belongings.
According to the police, the accused targeted anyone who would stop on the road to attend calls on mobile phones or to relieve himself.
